Sultan Wants Selangor Water Dispute Resolved Quickly

The Sultan of Selangor, in his royal address at the opening of the second session of the 12th legislative assembly on 10th March, urged the Selangor state government to urgently resolve the water crisis for the betterment of the people.

“I would like to emphasise here that water is important in daily life and is considered to be very essential,” the Sultan said.

The Sultan told the assembly that he understands that the restructuring of the state’s water industry is complex and requires financial analysis. His royal highness hopes that the offer made by the State government to the water concessionaires will be reasonable for an agreement to be reached.

“I do not want to see my people suffering because of the shortage of water due to the length of time it takes to solve this problem,” the Sultan added.

The Sultan also called for racial harmony in the state to be further strengthened and believes that this could be achieved by the different races respecting and working with each other.

His royal highness was also saddened that racial issues have been politicised in the country and urged the people of Selangor to have a “paradigm shift” on this issue.

Malaysians should stress on the similarities between them and not the differences. The core principles which is asked of from all races and culture such as morality, responsibility, honesty and trust should be practiced by everybody, he said.

He said policies should be enacted that benefit all the people of Selangor and not only a few.

The Sultan hoped that the people of Selangor would respect one another and that this would lead to greater harmony among the different races in the state.
